Fishers of Men.

Luke 5: 4-7

Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

Here is a story, among many, that exemplifies the importance and reward that comes with obedience and simply listening. Simon, who has been fishing day and night, could have said “Lord there is nothing here, lets try another day.” But instead, he said “at thy word I will let down the net.” I’m sure there have been instances in life when God is telling us to do one thing, but with our limited understanding, we decide to do otherwise.

Simon, although a professional in what he does, listened. He did only as the Lord instructed Him so. They caught so much fish that the net broke and the ships (more than one) sank. It pays to listen. It pays to be obedient. Had Simon leaned on his own understanding instead of acknowledging God (Proverbs 3:5-6), he would not have caught as many fish as he did that night.

We can do all things through Christ. But we have to be ready and available to do that which He asks us to do. When we make ourselves available, He accomplishes for us that which no man can do.

When you put God and involve Him in all that you do, you will achieve (net breaking and boat sinking experience) exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond what you would ever achieve doing it alone.

There will be challenges, there will be storms, but He will be our Shepherd. He will be our guide.

  1. Do you think God still speaks to humans directly for us to obey?

    1. Definitely not directly.
He speaks to us through the Holy Spirit.

      1. True. Many people don’t have the Holy Spirit and they claim that God speaks to them. How possible is that?

      2. Man made money and now money makes man, It’s also like a test where there is lot of frauds out there who claims that they have holy spirits some claims that they are too god’s own child, With faith and true love towards god as said above he will guide us through this too..
