Psalms 46:10
10 โBe still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God…”
It is that simple. Or is it?
Here God commands that we be still. He wasn’t suggesting, advising, or recommending that perhaps you should consider and think about being still. He commands—Be still— that’s the instruction.
Life as a believer means unwavering trust and obedience to God’s words. Now, I will be the first to admit, it isn’t always as easy as it sounds. In fact, it is harder to even begin to trust when everything around you is screaming at you that ‘it won’t work!’ But then, I remember—Be still:
To be still means to silence the doubts. To be still means to silence the negative thoughts. To be still means to shut out the gloomy ideas that ‘it won’t work!’ To be still means to slam the door on every pessimistic imagination not parallel to God’s plan concerning your life. To be still means to dismiss your design of what ought to be happening and fully trust in God’s own scheme.
Be still and know that I am God; that’s the command.
It gets even harder to trust when all your plans are dismantling right before you and the present looks nothing like you have imagined and constructed. But then, I remember—Know that I am God:
God Himself is reminding you that He is God. Because really, you may have forgotten who you’re dealing with to fret about what the future holds. You may have forgotten, even for a split second, that He is God when you’re anxious about tomorrow. You may have forgotten, that He is God and not man that He should lie, when you let hopelessness and worry take over. You just may have forgotten, so just in case, He is reminding you.
God, the omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient is telling you today to be still and remember that He is God. Because God is still God, you have no reason to worry. Because God is still God, you have no reason to doubt. Because God is still God, you have no reason to be anxious. All you need do is be still.
He who promised is too faithful and committed to fail you.
Wait on Him.
Be still.
