Jeremiah 13:11
11 For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,β says the Lord, βthat they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.β
Here we see the heart of God—longing for oneness with His people. God wants to identify with us in such a way that we receive the honor while He retains the glory.
With more than seven billion people in the world, I fully understand I am not the only one God is attending to. In fact, sometimes I feel guilty for seeking His attention so much. But after reading this verse, the guilt is rapidly fading.
I quickly discovered through this verse that God literally wants us to cling to Him—He wants all the clingy-ness—He wants us to draw close to Him—so close that when people see us they see Him.
Here we see God giving an example, through demonstration, of how near He wants us to be with Him. For a sash [linen waistband] to cling to the waist, a skin interaction is necessary—that’s how close God wants to be with you. That’s how tight He wants the relationship with you.
When next you think you’re bugging Him or calling on Him ‘too much,’ — I am here to tell you, that’s exactly what He wants. He doesn’t mind it. He loves it. He passionately longs for it.
No, you’re not clinging too hard.
