Part II: Feeding the mind

In continuation of In-n-out:

After finding the balance and staying conscious of what goes in and what comes out your mind–the next step is feeding.

What should I feed my mind:

  1. The Word of God. Whatever faith you believe in, feed it such. For there’s no great nutrient much more powerful than the food of the Word.
  2. Positive thinking and words of affirmation: daily or weekly nuggets of words that reaffirm your purpose and values and goals. Eg: “I’ll be an engineer!” “I’m going to become a published write this time next year!” “Fear, you don’t own me!”
  3. Exposure to well seasoned individuals that have accomplished what you hope to achieve: this can be achieved by investing in audio books or paper back novels written by the said individual of your choice. A novel that you can learn from and apply what you learn afterwards.
  4. Uplifting songs: the beautiful thing about musics is that it need not be in a language of your understanding to feel the deep rooted connection and melody of the song. It can be instrumental, etc

What should I not feed my mind:

  1. Negativity.
  2. Negativity.
  3. Negativity.
  4. Negativity: that comes in many forms and shapes—fear, frustration, anger, anxiety, etc etc.
  5. Negativity.

Unfortunately, no matter how much and painstakingly you try, life will always present to you in full platter unforeseen events that breed negativity. At that moment, refer back to all those nuggets and delicious meal you’ve been feeding your mind and rely on them.

Please do share with our reader ways you feed your mind and how you go about attaining them + how you avoid negativity. I look forward to your comments!

  2. A great reminder to think positive. I always try to find something positive in dark situations and then I pray to God if things are out of my control.

  3. Music is a must for me! It’s a great way to lift my mood, the louder the better – through headphones of course, I don’t want to upset the neighbours!

  4. Today, I tried something new. Instead of saying sorry, I thanked an individual for showing me what their needs were so that I will be able to communicate better with them in the future.

  6. Feed the mind indeed! I listen to a lot of music, a 3900 + song collection; even in the Bible days music was needed. Spending time in God’s word renews the mind, and focusing on the positive is a essential to overcome. You’ve laid out a wonderful set of things to do! #FoodForThought!
