“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” — Hebrews 11:8 NKJV
Life, as you may already know, is full of many uncertainties. Even those that live a well organized lifestyle will agree that there have been moments when life served them with the unexpected regardless of how much planning and preparation that was invested.
Everyday we experience a different level and degree of uncertainty, but I’m sure some will agree with me that the scariest of them all (the one that keeps you up late at night) is the uncertainty about the future; about your career; about your purpose in life.
To those who have found their purpose in life and are successfully living it; I applaud you.
To those who are still faced with uncertainties and puzzled about what the future holds; you are not alone.
Pray to God about it; ask Him to direct your path and be willing to follow when He does. Abraham knew not where he was going, but by faith, he obeyed and listen. Are you listening? Are you obeying? Often times the path God is leading you may not necessarily present itself in the same image you have pictured in your head, but if you trust Him then there’ll be no need to fear. If you faithfully believe in Him, there will be no reluctance to follow where He leads you. Where He guides, He will always provide. When Abraham arrived to the promise land, it looked nothing like what he had imagined a promise land to be. It was a strange looking land, but that didn’t stop him from settling or make him change his mind to return back home.
Finding your purpose requires you to actually try out new things. Don’t be afraid of mistakes because mistakes are part of the learning and discovering process. Ask God to help you discover your destiny and purpose. Ask of Him to invite into your life those that will help you get there. Ask Him for the boldness and confidence to explore things that you find interest in but unsure if it’s right for you.
Your journey may never be a straight line; but with God by your side it will be the perfect zig-zag leading to where you ought to be at exactly when you ought to be there. But first, you must ask yourself: am I willing to listen? Am I willing to obey?
